SC to Hear Manish Sisodia’s Bail Plea Amidst Money Laundering Probe

The Supreme Court is set to resume the hearing of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s bail plea on Wednesday. This follows an adjournment of the bail plea hearing, jointly requested by lawyers representing both sides, which occurred on September 15.

Mr. Sisodia currently has two special leave petitions scheduled for Wednesday, one against the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and another against the Enforcement Directorate (ED). These petitions are linked to an ongoing money laundering investigation related to an alleged Delhi excise policy scam.

A bench comprised of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and S.V.N. Bhati has acquiesced to the joint request made by Mr. Sisodia’s legal representative, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, and Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju, who is representing the ED.

In a previous hearing, Singhvi informed the court of the urgency surrounding the matter, emphasizing that Mr. Sisodia sought interim bail due to his wife’s serious health condition.

Mr. Sisodia has approached the apex court after facing setbacks in two separate Delhi High Court rulings on July 4 and May 30, both of which denied him bail in the ED and CBI cases. Additionally, he has sought interim bail on the grounds of his wife’s prolonged illness.

House of Ujjain Rape Accused to be Demolished

In the wake of a harrowing incident involving the rape of a minor, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sachin Sharma has announced that the house of the accused will be demolished on Wednesday, October 4. This decision comes in the aftermath of a distressing video that surfaced online, depicting the minor victim bleeding and partially unclothed, seeking help door-to-door.

Despite some uncertainty surrounding the actions to be taken, SP Sachin Sharma has confirmed that no action will occur on Tuesday, with the demolition scheduled for Wednesday. According to police sources, no significant properties belonging to the accused have been identified thus far.

On the morning of September 25, a 12-year-old girl from Satna fell victim to a rape perpetrated by an auto driver named Bharat Soni. The accused has since been apprehended. However, the police have not uncovered any information pertaining to substantial assets owned by Bharat Soni. It has also been revealed that Bharat’s family resides in a modest roadside sheet hut in the Nanakheda area, emphasizing their impoverished circumstances. Furthermore, Bharat’s father is an auto driver, while his brother runs a small shop.

In response to the incident, demands for the demolition of the accused Bharat Soni’s house have been voiced by some members of the community.
