Supreme Court To Hear Kejriwal’s Plea Against HC’s Order On Bail Today

On Monday, the Supreme Court fixed June 26 to hear Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea against the High Court order, putting an interim stay on his bail in the money laundering case linked to the alleged excise scam.

A vacation bench of Justices SVN Bhatti and Manoj Misra stated that it would like to wait for the pronouncement of high court’s order regarding the matter.

Kejriwal’s senior Advocate Abhishek Singhvi, sought vacating of the interim stay on the bail order.

However, ASG SV Raju, appearing for the ED, opposed Kejriwal’s plea, saying that the high court is about to pronounce the verdict on its stay application.

Aam Aadmi Party national convener, Arvind Kejriwal, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21. Had the high court not granted the interim stay relief, the Delhi CM could have walked out of Tihar on Friday.

On Tuesday night, CBI arrested Arvind Kejriwal from Tihar and is set to produce him before the trial court on Wednesday, 26 June.

CBI also questioned Kejriwal and recorded his statement in connection with the excise policy case in the jail on Tuesday.

Nagaland To Vote In Historic Civic Body Polls Today

Nagaland will conduct the first elections to its civic bodies in two decades today. “Voting will commence at 7.30 am and conclude at 4pm,” an election official said, adding that “the votes will be counted on June 29.”

The last elections were held in 2004 in the northeastern state, which has three municipal councils and 36 town councils.

Another factor that makes it historic is that it would be the first-ever municipal elections in Nagaland that would be held with 33 per cent reservation for women.

Among the parties contesting the elections are the BJP, NDPP, Congress, Naga Peoples’ Front (NPF), RPI (Athawale), Rising Peoples’ Party, JD(U), NCP, LJP, and NPP.

A total of 2,23,636 people including 1,10,115 male and 1,13,521 female, will cast ballots to decide the fate of 523 candidates from 11 political parties, contetsing for 214 wards. Voting will be held across 420 polling stations, categorised as hyper-sensitive, sensitive and normal.

“Instead of EVMs, voting will be done through ballot papers,” the election officer told PTI.
