World News: Trump’s Russia Oil U-Turn and Saudi-Houthi Conflict expose US foreign policy contradictions.

Donald Trump’s foreign policy is facing fresh scrutiny as his approach to the Saudi Arabia-Houthi conflict and Russia-related oil restrictions raises questions about America’s global commitments. Instead of offering Saudi Arabia direct military assistance against the Houthi rebels, Trump has reportedly advised Riyadh to consider accepting Israel’s offer of help. The move has sparked debate over whether Washington is using the conflict to encourage the normalisation of relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel. Saudi Arabia has long relied on American military support and advanced defence systems, including Patriot missile batteries. However, continued Houthi attacks and threats to regional security have raised concerns about the effectiveness of the kingdom’s defensive capabilities. Any escalation around the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait could also disrupt international shipping, threaten global trade and push oil prices higher. Meanwhile, rising fuel prices in the United States are putting additional pressure on the Trump administration ahead of the November midterm elections. Trump’s reported decision to ease certain restrictions related to Russian oil and fuel supplies has drawn criticism, particularly as his administration has previously taken a tough stance against Moscow. Reports of a US deal involving Russian diesel have further intensified the debate over Washington’s sanctions policy. French President Emmanuel Macron has also criticised the reported Russian diesel arrangement, arguing that such decisions could send the wrong message and create uncertainty among international partners. The developments have reignited questions about whether the America First strategy prioritises domestic political interests over consistent international commitments. From the Saudi-Houthi conflict to Russian oil restrictions, Trump’s decisions are highlighting the complex relationship between energy prices, geopolitical alliances and electoral pressures.
