The Baloch separatists have launched Operation ‘BAAM,’ also known as Operation Daw, against the Pakistani Army. According to media reports, there have been over 50 attacks in the past 24 hours, numerous kidnappings, and more than 27 deaths reported across Balochistan. The announcement of the operation was done by the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF).
According to the BLF, Operation Baam represents a strategically synchronised offensive targeting the military installations, police outposts, communication infrastructure, and administrative facilities.
In a press statement issued by Major Gwahram Baloch, spokesperson of BLF, “The Balochistan Liberation Front has announced that 80% of the objectives of its ongoing military campaign, Operation Baam, have been successfully achieved.”
It added, “So far, over 70 coordinated attacks have been carried out across Balochistan under this operation. Baloch Sarmachars (freedom fighters) have targeted state infrastructure, security forces, and Pakistan’s economic interests in this strategic actions.”
He also added that the campaign was intended to inflict both “human and material losses” on Pakistani security forces, though exact details of casualties and damage remain unclear.
According to the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a total of 18 Pakistani soldiers were killed in the attack on a military camp in Gidar.
Several media reports quoted that a wave of coordinated attacks hit the government installations across Pakistan’s restive Balochistan late Tuesday night. Though the Pakistani authorities are yet to reveal the full scale of the attack, news agency ANI, quoting local sources, reported that there was damage at military checkpoints, communication networks, and administrative buildings. According to Dawn, the explosions occurred in the backyard of the house, injuring the residents of Hajra, Mahlab, Fatima, Naz Gul, and Muhammad Ibrahim. Following the attacks, they were rushed to the District Hospital Turbat for treatment.
Previously active in Makuran, Awaran and parts of Khuzdar, the BLF expanded its footprint during Operation Baam to Sohbatpur, Nasirabad, Karmo Wadh, and other eastern areas – countering longstanding claims of limited organizational reach. While the BLF has not indicated that Operation Baam will evolve into a long-term campaign, Baloch experts view the offensive as a strategic show of strength following years of media blackout and diminishing global attention on the Baloch cause.
