United States forces carried out air strikes targeting multiple sites associated with the Islamic State group in Syria, as confirmed by the military on Saturday. According to a statement from the US Central Command on X, the strikes occurred in the early hours of October 11.

“U.S. Central Command forces conducted a series of airstrikes against multiple known ISIS camps in Syria in the early morning of Oct. 11. The strikes will disrupt the ability of ISIS to plan, organise, and conduct attacks against the United States, its allies and partners, and civilians throughout the region and beyond,” the statement read.

900 US Troops Stationed In Syria To Fight Islamic State

Currently, approximately 900 US troops are stationed in Syria as part of the international coalition formed in 2014 to combat the Islamic State group, which had seized significant territories in Iraq and Syria, news agency AFP reported.

The coalition has faced numerous attacks from militant factions, employing drones and rocket fire in both Iraq and Syria. The ongoing violence in the region, intensified by the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza since last year, has led to the involvement of various militant groups, including Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon.

In response to these threats, US forces have conducted several retaliatory strikes against militant groups in Iraq and Syria. In September, two separate operations in Syria resulted in the deaths of 37 “terrorist operatives,” including members of ISIS and the Al-Qaeda affiliate Hurras al-Din, as per AFP.
