Maine Shooting: The two-day-long manhunt for the man, Robert Card, suspected of killing 18 people in a bowling alley in the US town of Maine ended after he was found dead. The search had put the authorities on edge with FBI SWAT teams joining late Thursday night, reported BBC. Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Facebook that the “suspect in Wednesday night’s shootings has been located and is deceased”.

Police found Card’s body at a recycling facility where he recently worked, the Associated Press reported citing a law enforcement official.

Maine Governor Janet Mills, in a press conference, said the body was found in Lisbon, nearby where the shooting occurred. “I’m breathing a sigh of relief tonight knowing that Robert Card will not be a threat to anyone,” she said, as quoted by BBC.

Card shot dead 18 people and wounded 13 others at Schemengees Bar and Grille and at Just-In-Time Recreation bowling alley in Lewiston, Maine, the US, the AP reported. Meanwhile, Lewiston Police Chief David St Pierre said he was “elated” by the news, but “our work is not done here”.

“We’re gonna grieve for the families that lost loved ones, were gonna continue to work, we’re gonna persevere and we’re gonna become better people for it,” he further said, as quoted by BBC. The news came hours after the police advised residents to remain vigilant and indoors as the police and officials looked out for their man.

Maine Senator Susan Collins said the state now “can breathe a collective sigh of relief thanks to the brave first responders who worked night and day to find this killer”. She said that US President Joe Biden had called her to inform her that the suspect had died, BBC report stated.

“Our hearts are broken,” she said.
