Since Thursday, at least three tornadoes have been documented, striking areas near Bird City, Kansas, Yoder, Wyoming, and Akron, Colorado, according to the National Weather Service. As the week progresses, further storm activity is anticipated, particularly on the eastern side of the Plains, potentially unleashing additional tornadoes and hail.

Looking ahead to Saturday, the threat of severe weather intensifies, with storms forecast to generate frequent lightning and severe wind gusts across the middle Mississippi Valley, as well as the central and southern Plains.

It’s crucial for residents in these regions to remain vigilant, stay updated on weather advisories, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and well-being. Kansas Governor Laura Kelly issued a state of disaster emergency proclamation due to the severe weather.

“I encourage all Kansans to have an emergency kit and a family plan in preparation for a tornado,” Governor Kelly said. “Stay updated on local weather conditions by listening to a NOAA weather radio or local TV and radio stations. Once a warning is activated, it is important to take cover,” Kelly advised
