The US Embassy in Kyiv was temporarily closed after receiving specific information of a potential significant air attack on Wednesday, an official statement said, asking all employees to immediately take shelter.

“The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv has received specific information of a potential significant air attack on November 20.  Out of an abundance of caution, the Embassy will be closed, and Embassy employees are being instructed to shelter in place. The U.S. Embassy recommends U.S. citizens be prepared to immediately shelter in the event an air alert is announced,” the embassy said.

On Tuesday, the embassy asked US citizens to exercise caution over the next “several weeks” amid persistent Russian attacks targeting civilian infrastructure throughout Ukraine. “Persistent Russian attacks targeting civilian infrastructure throughout Ukraine may result in power outages, loss of heating, and disruption of municipal services. Missile attacks and falling debris will pose safety risks,” the embassy had said in a statement.

It also asked the US nationals to prepare for possible temporary loss of electricity and water by having reserves of water, food, and other essentials, including ample supplies of all required medications.
