External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar addressed the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, reiterating India’s firm position against terrorism. Without directly naming Pakistan, Jaishankar referred to state-sponsored and cross-border terrorism, stressing that governments supporting such activities must be held accountable. His remarks came a day after Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the UNGA and made several allegations against India. Jaishankar rejected efforts to normalize terrorism and emphasized that India would continue taking necessary measures to protect its national security. He also called for greater action against the financial networks supporting terrorism, maintaining that there should be no dilution in the global approach of zero tolerance toward terrorism. In his address, Jaishankar also spoke about the Israel-Palestine issue and supported a two-state solution as the route toward lasting peace. He said terrorism remains a persistent threat to international peace and security and argued that the international community must respond firmly to those who use terrorism as a tool. India’s position, he emphasized, remains focused on countering terrorism while defending its security interests.
