  • US President Trump urged restraint after Israeli airstrike in Beirut.
  • Israel targeted Beirut, killing three; cited Hezbollah projectiles.

US President Donald Trump on Sunday called for restraint from all sides after Israel carried out an airstrike in Beirut’s southern suburbs, warning that any further escalation could undermine ongoing efforts to secure a wider peace agreement in the region.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the strike “should not have happened,” arguing that it came at a sensitive moment when negotiators were “so close to a Peace Deal with Iran.”

While reiterating Israel’s right to defend itself, Trump described the incident that prompted the Israeli response as minor.

“This morning’s attack on Beirut should not have happened, particularly on a special day when we are so close to a Peace Deal with Iran. Israel has the right to defend itself against threats, but the attack it was responding to was very small and meaningless, nobody was hurt, injured, or killed, and should not disrupt this important process,” he wrote.

Trump Urges All Parties To Avoid Military Escalation

The US President urged all parties to avoid further military action and prevent tensions from spiralling.

“There should be no more attacks by Israel anywhere in Lebanon, but there should also be no more attacks by any other party, including Hezbollah, against Israel,” Trump said.

Expressing optimism about the prospects for regional stability, he suggested that the current moment could pave the way for a broader breakthrough.

“This could be the beginning of a long and beautiful peace. Let’s not blow it,” he added.

3 Killed In Beirut After Israel Attack

At least three people were killed and 16 others injured after Israel carried out an airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburb of Ghobeiri on Sunday, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.

The ministry said the overall death toll from Israeli military operations between March 2 and June 14 has risen to 3,783, with 11,699 people wounded. The figures were carried by Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA).

In a statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said the military had targeted Hezbollah sites in the Dahiyeh area of Beirut in response to projectile fire from Lebanon into Israeli territory.

The Israeli military claimed Hezbollah launched three projectiles towards northern Israel, describing the incident as a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement.

Israel Targets Beirut

The latest escalation comes amid ongoing Israeli air raids and ground operations in southern Lebanon and has raised concerns about its potential impact on ongoing diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran.

The tensions coincide with negotiations over a proposed memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Washington and Tehran. While US President Donald Trump has suggested that an agreement could be reached soon, Iranian officials have indicated that negotiations remain unresolved.
