During the exchange of fire, Havaldar Muhammad Azhar Iqbal, 42, a resident of Lodhran, Naik Muhammad Asad, 34, a resident of Khanewal and Sepoy Muhammad Essa who was 22-years-old and a resident of South Waziristan, lost their lives.
The fleeing terrorists were intercepted and three of them were killed after an intense exchange of fire, the ISPR added. The security forces immediately cordoned off the area, blocking all possible escape routes. The military also recovered arms and ammunition from the terrorists who were killed during the ambush.
A similar incident took place on Tuesday night, where a high-ranking officer of Pakistan’s spy agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), was killed along with his driver when “hard core terrorists” ambushed his vehicle in the country’s northwest, security officials and police said. Seven soldiers were also injured during the fight, the ISPR said.
The ISPR said that brigadier Burki and his team “put up a valiant resistance” against the terrorists during the encounter and the officer sacrificed his life.
