The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear four major matters linked to the ongoing dispute over Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The cases include a petition filed by 13 INDIA bloc leaders following their October 12 march to the Supreme Court, a challenge to police action and restrictions imposed during the October 10 protest in Delhi, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s petition seeking cancellation of SIR, and a separate plea seeking contempt proceedings against opposition leaders over alleged sloganeering and disruption inside the Supreme Court premises. The opposition’s petition raises questions about the Election Commission’s functioning and seeks relief on several issues, including stopping SIR. The October 10 case involves allegations concerning police conduct, restrictions on public transport and the treatment of women journalists. The Centre, Delhi Police and Delhi Metro have reportedly filed responses, arguing that the measures were necessary to maintain public order and were not intended to violate the court’s directions. According to the report, hearings were expected to begin after 11 a.m., with two matters listed before a bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Bagchi. The court’s response will be closely watched amid the ongoing political and legal confrontation.
