New Delhi: A suicide bombing killed around nine police personnel on Monday in Pakistan’s southwest region, reported news agency Reuters. A suicide bomber crashed a motorbike against a police truck, as per the Pakistan police spokesperson Mehmood Khan Notizai.

Mehmood said the attacks occurred in the Sibbi region, which is located about 160 KM east of the capital city of Balochistan province Quetta.

Hospital authorities stated at least seven policemen were left injured in the suicide bombing, as mentioned by Reuters.

However, so far no organisation or terror entity has taken the responsibility for today’s attack. Meanwhile, local and indigenous Baloch rebels and guerrillas have been involved in the fight against Pakistan’s establishment for several decades in the past. They allege that the Islamic state uses them and their natural resources.

Amid its crumbling economy, Pakistan has been in a tough spot as it has been trying to resolve the challenges of fighting against militants.

Over 2,100 personnel have died and around 7,000 have been left injured since 2002 in the fight with Islamists in the country, as cited in a separate report by Reuters.

The report further noted in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa region, the killings of policemen increased 10 119 in 2022 from 54 in the year 2021.

This year alone, around 102 policemen have been killed in bombing incidents across Pakistan, reported Reuters. The suicide bombings took place amid the ongoing economic crisis that has been a major blow to the country.
