A missile attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, has reportedly killed at least 12 people and injured 309 others, according to the country’s General Authority of Civil Aviation. The casualties include Saudi citizens and foreign nationals, while some of the injured are reportedly in critical condition. Emergency services have taken the wounded to hospitals for treatment. The attack reportedly struck the airport’s passenger terminal, triggering panic as people rushed to safety. Images and videos circulating in news coverage showed smoke rising near the airport and scenes of disruption. Airport operations were temporarily suspended while authorities assessed the damage and security situation. Flights were cancelled or diverted, and passengers were advised to check directly with their airlines before travelling. Indian carrier Akasa Air has suspended its Riyadh services until October 13, according to reports. Saudi Arabia’s Saudi-led coalition has blamed Yemen’s Houthi movement for the attack. However, the Houthis had not claimed responsibility for this specific strike at the time of Al Jazeera’s report. The incident follows earlier attacks on Saudi airport facilities, raising concerns about civilian safety and escalating regional tensions.
