In its fresh round of offensive action against Ukraine, Russia launched drones and possibly ballistic missiles in an overnight attack on Ukraine’s south and east, reported Reuters citing Ukraine’s Air Force and officials early on Tuesday. Mykolaiv city mayor said that a fire broke out at one of the “facilities” in the port of the town. As per the report, the port city provides Ukraine with access to the Black Sea.

“It’s quite serious,” Mayor Oleksandr Senkevich said on the Telegram messaging app of the fire, adding that more detail will come in the morning, report added.

The Ukraine Air Force said on the Telegram messaging app, as per Reuters, that the southern port of Odesa and the Mykolaiv, Donetsk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions were under threat of Russian drone attacks.

It added that Russia may be using ballistic weaponry to attack the regions of Poltava, Cherkasy, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv and Kirovohrad. Reuters mentioned that air raid alerts blared in many Ukrainian regions for hours, before being called off at around 04:30 a.m. local time (0130 GMT).

Serhiy Bratchuk, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s Odesa military administration, said on the Telegram messaging app that details of the attack will come later in the morning. “Thank you all for your endurance,” he said.

Earlier on Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin decried a “terror attack”, stressing tougher security measures after Kyiv targeted a bridge linking Moscow-annexed Crimea to Russia.

Two people were killed and their daughter injured in an attack on the Kerch Bridge. Russian officials accused Ukraine of being involved in what they termed a “terrorist” attack on the bridge. Russia’s national anti-terrorist committee said that the attack was carried out by two maritime drones packed with explosives sent by Ukraine, however, Kyiv has not taken responsibility for the incident.
