President Murmu Conferred With Honorary Degree Of Doctor Of Civil Law By University Of Mauritius

President Droupadi Murmu, who is currently on a three-day visit to Mauritius, was conferred with the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Civil Law on Tuesday by the University of Mauritius. Sharing the news on X, she stated that she is honoured to have received the degree. She further wrote that she hoped “it will inspire all young people, particularly young women, to discover their unique passion, and pursue their dreams”.

President Murmu also addressed the university in Mauritius and urged them “to stay connected with India to nourish their proud past and invest in their bright future”, the External Affairs Ministry said.

During her visit, President Murmu gifted a RuPay card to the country’s Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth. RuPay card was recently launched in Mauritius.

The two leaders also interacted during a meeting aimed at strengthening the bilateral ties of the nations. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the meeting was aimed at discussing ways to impart further momentum to the historic and deep-rooted India-Mauritius partnership. 

President Murmu was received by Mauritian Prime Minister Jugnauth with full state honours upon arrival, showcasing the “special gesture reflecting the exceptionally close ties between India and Mauritius,” the MEA stated.

She will also grace the Mauritian National Day as chief guest, becoming the sixth Indian President to do so since 2000. A contingent of the Indian Navy will also participate in the country’s National Day celebrations along with two ships CGS Sarathi and INS Tir. During the three-day visit, President Murmu is also scheduled to meet the Chief Justice of the Mauritian Supreme Court, the Speaker of the Mauritius National Assembly, and other important leaders.

President Murmu will also inaugurate 14 India-assisted projects, demonstrating the growing expanse and multi-faceted nature of India’s partnership with Mauritius, the MEA stated. The ministry also stated that her visit underscores the longstanding and enduring ties between the two countries and reaffirms their continued commitment towards strengthening bilateral relationships across all sectors.
