As mild tension arose among Nepali students at KIIT in Odisha earlier, following the student Prakriti Lamsal’s death, the university authorities held discussions with the agitating foreign students to address their concerns and maintain peace on campus.

“Keeping in view the situation, the Nepal students have been sent to their respective homes. The situation presently remained calm,” the KIIT said. Many students from Nepal assembled on the KIIT campus on Sunday night and staged a demonstration demanding justice.

The students were told to vacate the hostel immediately, and busloads of students were dropped at the Cuttack Railway Station although they will appear for exams on February 28.

Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli also took note of the death of the student and posted on social media platform to inform that the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi has dispatched two officers to counsel Nepali students affected in the state. He also said that arrangements have been made to ensure that the students have the option to either remain in their hostel or return home, based on their preference.

“Our Embassy in New Delhi has dispatched two officers to counsel Nepali students affected in Odisha. Additionally, arrangements have been made to ensure they have the option to either remain in their hostel or return home, based on their preference,” Oli said in a post on X.
