Modi Meets Ex-Japan PM Suga And ‘Ganesha Group’ MPs, Discusses Strategic Partnership

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japan’s former Prime Minister and Chairman of the Japan-India Association (JIA) Yoshihide Suga on Thursday held discussion on boosting the strategic and global partnership between the two nations in different sectors, including parliamentary exchanges, investment and economic ties. Suga is on a visit to India with a delegation comprising government officials, Keidanren (Japan Business Federation), and members of “Ganesha no Kai” group of Parliamentarians.

Taking to Twitter, PM Modi wrote, “Glad to receive Mr. @sugawitter, Chairman JIA and former PM of Japan, along with the ‘Ganesha group’ of Japanese Parliamentarians and @keidanren CEOs. Had an engaging discussion on deepening our Special Strategic and Global Partnership in different areas, including parliamentary exchanges, investment and economic ties, P2P links, tourism and skill development.”

According to a release issued by the Prime Minister’s office, the two leaders talked about growing popularity of Yoga and Ayurveda in Japan and discussed ways to boost cultural ties between the two countries.  

PM Modi welcomed Keidanren members and highlighted the reforms undertaken in the country to improve the business ecosystem. He also invited the Japanese investors to expand their investments and explore new avenues of cooperation, the PMO release said.

Notably, Yoshihide Suga underlined the importance of deepening cooperation between India, and Japan as strategic global partners.

Addressing the FICCI event, Suga said that he will be happy to get suggestions on how the Members of Parliament from both nations can work together to strengthen bilateral trade and business opportunities.

He also said that he hopes the delegation of ‘Ganesha’ Group of MPs from Japan visiting India will give further momentum to the India-Japan ties and serve as an opportunity to strengthen the business engagements.
