An Indian-origin US student lost his life after falling from a hotel balcony in the Bahamas while on a college trip just six days before his graduation.

The 25-year-old student, identified as Gaurav Jaisingh, was on an annual Bentley University senior class trip to the island nation. The incident occurred on the night of May 11 at the Atlantis Paradise Island Resort and Casino, as per several media reports.

Gaurav was originally from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, US, was part of the Delta Sigma Pi fraternity, and was also an active participant in the South Asian Students Association at his school. He was enrolled in finance with a minor in computer information systems at Bentley University.

As per The Daily Mail, Bentley, which is a small private university located in Waltham, about 12 miles outside of Boston, has been offering a five-day, four-night trip to the Bahamas during the week between finals and commencement to the graduating class for two decades.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force has confirmed that an American man fell from an upper-floor balcony while inside his hotel room with several roommates.

Probe On Way

According to ABC News, which cited police sources, the man was discovered unresponsive on a lower level. Emergency responders rushed him to the hospital, but he died from his injuries en route, officials said.

Police have stated that the investigation into the incident remains ongoing. “We share our deepest condolences with Gaurav’s family, friends, and loved ones. While local authorities are investigating, it appears Gaurav accidentally fell from a balcony,” Bentley University said in a statement, ABC News reported.

“We will share more information when available while respecting his family’s privacy,” the varsity added. “This is an enormous tragedy for our community. Bentley is providing resources for those who are impacted and encourages anyone who needs support to reach out to the university’s counseling center,” it further reads.

According to a report by The Daily Mail, the 25-year-old student held the role of fraternity pledge coordinator from January to August 2024 and also participated in the university’s new student initiatives as both an orientation leader and campus tour guide.

He was scheduled to begin his professional journey as a consultant in New York City after graduating.
