Comedian Kapil Sharma’s Kap’s Cafe issued a statement on Friday saying they are processing the shock after a shooting incident took place outside the cafe in Canada on Thursday.

The newly opened cafe in Canada’s Surrey came under attack, allegedly by Khalistan sympathisers, and there were no injuries reported.

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) said it responded to a call from a business at 1:50 am local time on Thursday. It did not name the business establishment.

“On Thursday, July 10, at 1:50 am, Surrey Police Service was called to a business located in the 8400 block of 120 Street for a report of shots fired,” the SPS said.

“Upon police arrival, it was quickly determined that the shots were fired towards the business, damaging the property, while staff members were still present inside,” it said.

The SPS further said the investigation is underway and connections to other incidents and potential motives are being examined.

According to the Vancouver Sun, the police did not have a description of the suspect yet and the motive for the shooting has not been determined.

The cafe, in its statement said it was in shock but not giving up on the business.

“We opened Kap’s Cafe with hopes of bringing warmth, community, and joy through delicious coffee and friendly conversation. To have violence intersect with that dream is heartbreaking. We are processing this shock but we are not giving up,” said the cafe in an Instagram Story.

“A Thank you for Your Support Your kind words, prayers, and memories shared via DM mean more than you know. This cafe exists because of your belief in what we’re building together. Let’s stand firm against violence and ensure Kap’s Cafe remains a place of warmth and community. From all of us at Kap’s Cafe, thank you and see you soon, under better skies,” it added.

The cafe also thanked Surrey Police and Delta Police Department for their “efforts in ensuring everyone’s safety”.
