Modi In US: President Donald Trump distanced the United States from any involvement in Bangladesh’s ongoing crisis. Speaking to the media alongside Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, following a bilateral meeting in Washington that focused on trade and India-US relations, Trump brushed aside a question regarding the situation in Bangladesh, making it clear that the issue was not a priority for his administration.
“I’ll leave Bangladesh to PM Modi,” the president said, replying to a journalist’s pointed question on what the US “deep state played a role in the regime change in Bangladesh”.
Diplomatic experts had anticipated that Bangladesh would be a key discussion point in the Trump-Modi talks.
Speaking about Trump’s statement on Bangladesh, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said the matter was discussed between the two leaders.
“On what we make of the statement on Bangladesh… this was a subject that was discussed between the two leaders. And the Prime Minister shared his views and, indeed, his concerns with regard to recent developments in Bangladesh and how India sees the situation.”

US Cuts Aid to Bangladesh
This development follows the US decision to suspend all aid to the Bangladesh government, led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. The Trump administration, through its donor agency USAID, announced an immediate halt to all operations in Bangladesh.
This suspension covers contracts, grants, cooperative agreements, and other procurement activities undertaken by the US in Bangladesh.
In an official letter, USAID notified its partners that all projects under its Bangladesh operations were to be halted.
Dhaka has long relied on international support for development projects. The withdrawal of American aid is expected to have a considerable impact, particularly on educational and agricultural programmes that benefited from US funding.
