By now, most of Twitter’s 217 million daily active users have probably heard the news: Billionaire Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and a prolific internet poster, is taking over the social network.

Twitter regulars are wondering what a Musk-owned platform will mean for online harassment, misinformation and democracy. But more immediately, they are worried about the privacy of their own data on the service.
