Yemen’s Houthi rebel group blamed Israel for the killing of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh saying Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has received green signal for assassinations on his recent trip to the US. The rebel group also blamed Washington for the killing and said that it must pay the price.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said on Wednesday that the Hamas top leader was killed in Tehran where attened the swearing-in ceremony of Iranain President Masoud Pezeshkian. Notbaly, Union minister Nitin Gadkari was also present in the event.

“Netanyahu returned from America with a green light for assassinations. America is involved in everything that is happening and must pay the price,” said the Yemeni rebel group in a statement.

The Palestinian militant group also blamed Israel for the killing of its leader saying he was killed in “a treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran”. The outfit also said that Haniyeh’s killing will not force them to surrender.

“The assassination of the Mujahid Commander Ismail Haniyeh is a crime that will increase our people’s resolve and struggle for their rights,” said the Palestinian National Initiative head.

While no one has claimed responsibility for the killing yet, the suspicion immediately fell on Israel as Netanyahu vowed to kill Haniyeh and other Hamas top leaders after the outfit’s attack on Israel on October 7.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas condemned the assassination dubbing it as “a cowardly act and a dangerous development”, reported BBC. In a statement, he called on Palestinians “to unite, be patient and steadfast in the face of the Israeli occupation”, reported state news agency Wafa.

Ismail Haniyeh’s killing comes amid heightened tensions of an all-out war after Israel claimed it killled top military commander of Hezbollah in the aftermath of the Golan Heights attack.
