New Delhi: Boris Johnson, who was ousted due to scandals just three months ago, can make a comeback as Britain’s Prime Minister amid growing support. When asked whether he should be back as prime minister, people in UK told Sky News that they supported the idea. They said that if it was not for the scandals, he would have done a good job.

One woman told Sky News that she would rather not have an election and “go to Boris instead” even though he made a few mistakes, “but who doesn’t?”. A man said that if it isn’t for the party gate and other scandals he would have done a good job.

‘Bring back Boris, he’s the man’

Boris Johnson may be one of several contenders looking to replace Lizz Truss who left the shortest period of time in office.

According to AP, the Conservative Party has ordered a lightning-fast race that aims to finalise nominations Monday and install a new prime minister, it’s third this year, within a week. While Boris has not publicly declared if he is running, Conservative MP Sir James Duddridge told Sky News that Johnson is planning a second bid for Downing Street – saying he is “up for it” and “I’m going to do it, Dudders!”.

Johnson was seen returning to the UK after a two-week holiday in the Dominican Republic, he was flying back in economy alongside his wife and children, according to Sky News. It is not known if he has cut his trip short.

While former lawyer Rishi Sunak seems to have a lead in pledges with support, Johnson himself is picking up big names — including Defence Secretary Ben Wallace, who many MPs and activists would have liked to see enter the race, Sky News reported.

Aside from Sunak and Johnson, House of Commons leader Penny Mordaunt was the first candidate to publicly declare she is running to replace Truss, saying in a tweet Friday that she represented “a fresh start.”

Mordaunt, 49, is a Royal Navy reservist who briefly served as UK defence secretary in 2019. Outside of Conservative circles, she was on the 2014 reality TV diving show “Splash!”
