She was at the elegant monument for one-and-half hours, during which she took several photographs. As she walked around the monument, she enquired about the architectural splendour from her tour guide.

She is the mother of Bhutan’s king Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, hence Tshering Yangdon holds the title of Queen Mother in Bhutan. She was born on 21 June 1959, and is the third wife of Bhutan’s former king, Jigme Singye Wangchuck.

Late last year, Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck visited New Delhi, and he was received by External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar. The king was accompanied by Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck and senior officials from the Royal Government of Bhutan.

During his visit, the Bhutan King held a series of bilateral meetings with the Indian leadership to review the diplomatic ties. The Bhutan King also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking another chapter in the ongoing high-level engagements between the two countries.

The King’s visit provided an opportunity to review and advance these initiatives, further cementing the long-standing friendship between India and Bhutan.

In December, King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck paid tributes to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his State funeral at Nigambodh Ghat in Delhi.
