Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif revealed on Friday that he was informed in the middle of the night about precision strikes on the country’s key airbases including the Nur Khan Air Base.

Sharif said he was alerted about India’s strikes under ‘Operation Sindoor‘ at 2:30 a.m. by Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir.

“At around 2:30 am on 10 May, General Syed Asim Munir called me on a secure line and informed me that India’s ballistic missiles have hit Nur Khan Airbase and other areas,” the PM said, reported ANI.

He also admitted that the precision strikes caused heavy damage to Pakistan’s military infrastructure including the Nur Khan Air Base.

The Indian armed forces launched Opertion Sindoor on May 7 in retaliation to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir where 26 civilians were killed on April 22. Under the operation, India carried out precision strikes on terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

After India’s action, Pakistan attempted to attack Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10 following which India launched counter attacks targeting Pakistani military installations.

On May 10, the two countries reached an understanding to end the military escalations after four days of intense cross-border strikes and drone attacks.

‘Sit Down Like Peaceful Neighbours’

Addressing a public event on Friday, Sharif called for dialogue between the two countries to settle outstanding issues, including Kashmir, reported PTI.

“The lesson is to sit down as peaceful neighbours and settle all outstanding issues, including Jammu and Kashmir. Without resolution of our issues, we cannot have peace in this part of the world,” Shehbaz said during the ‘Youm-e-Tashakur’ event.

However, India has made it clear that it will only have a dialogue with its neighbouring nation on the return of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and the issue of terrorism.

“If peace comes, we can also cooperate in counterterrorism,” Sharif said at the event.
