At least two people were killed in a midair collision involving two small planes in southern Arizona, United States on Wednesday morning.

The planes collided near Marana Regional Airport on the outskirts of Tucson, following which two people on board each plane lost their lives, news agency Associated Press reported citing federal air-safety investigators as saying.

The National Transportation Safety Board said based on preliminary information that one plane landed uneventfully with the other hitting the ground near a runway and bursting into flames.

The incident occurred after an American Airlines aircraft crashed mid-air with a military Black Hawk chopper in Washington DC in late January this year.

The Marana Police Department confirmed the death of two persons after responding to the crash.

The crash took place on January 31. The plane had exploded into a fireball and engulfed several home after the crash, injuring 19 others.
