People in New Zealand also thronged to downtown with many climbing the Auckland’s volcanic peaks to get a vantage point of the fireworks in the city, which were held to recognise the indigenous tribes, the Associated Press reported.

The countries in the South Pacific Ocean are the first ones to welcome 2025, with the clock in New Zealand striking 12 midnight almost 18 hours before the iconic ball drop in New York’s Time Square.

After Auckland and Sydney in New Zealand, Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra in Australia are set to welcome the New Year. Queensland and Northern Australia will usher in 2025 later.

Over one million people are now expected to visit the Sydney Harbour in Australia for fireworks. Here, British pop star Robbie Williams will lead a singalong as indigenous ceremonies and performances will honour the land’s first people, Associated Press reported.

The last nations to welcome in the New Year will be the islands of Baker and Howland. By the time these uninhabited islands see New Year, it will be already January 2 for majority of the countries in the world. These islands are located in the southwest of Hawaii.

In Jakarta, the New Year celebrations will feature a dazzling display of fireworks including a drone show featuring 800 drones.
