During the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, an important meeting took place between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The meeting gained attention amid ongoing tensions and conflicts in West Asia, highlighting BRICS as a potential platform for dialogue during global crises. Pezeshkian stated that Iran has no dispute with the UAE or other neighbouring countries but strongly opposes the presence of US military bases in the region. India has also maintained close engagement with Iran, with PM Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu holding meetings with the Iranian leadership. Iran sees BRICS as an opportunity to strengthen its economy amid Western sanctions. Tehran wants greater economic cooperation with BRICS countries, including increased use of local currencies in trade to reduce dependence on the US dollar. Iran has also expressed interest in a common BRICS currency that could challenge the dollar, although no decision has been taken on creating a single BRICS currency. India has clarified that it does not support replacing the dollar with a BRICS currency, while supporting greater trade in local currencies.
