PAKISTAN POLITICS: Why is Asim Munir reportedly reaching out to Imran Khan?

Pakistan’s political crisis has intensified speculation about why Army Chief Asim Munir might need Imran Khan despite holding enormous power. The commentary argues that Imran’s popularity remains a major factor in Pakistani politics, even after years in prison. PTI-backed candidates performed strongly in the 2024 elections, demonstrating that his political influence has not disappeared. At the same time, the Shehbaz Sharif government faces criticism over governance, inflation, economic difficulties and unrest in several regions. According to the analysis, these problems are increasingly being associated with the military establishment as well. It claims that Munir may therefore be seeking a political arrangement with Imran to reduce public hostility and strengthen his own position. Another major claim is that constitutional changes would require broad parliamentary support, potentially making PTI crucial to any such move. However, Imran remains unwilling to surrender politically and continues to present himself as a leader determined to fight until the end.
