TV news footage showed police officers dashing and riding horses to the scene of the shooting, which occurred approximately 45 minutes before midnight Saturday, according to the report.

Police have not disclosed the identity of the individual deceased or the conditions of the nine people sent to the hospital, the report said.

As per the report, the incident took place just a few blocks from the main stage of the Moon Pie Over Mobile festival. The celebration continued at midnight with pyrotechnics and a moon pie dropped from a downtown structure to celebrate the start of 2023.

Mobile Police Chief Paul Prine told reporters at the site that the shooter and the victim appeared to know each other.

Alabama is a southeastern United States state that is home to key Civil Rights Movement landmarks. In the 1960s, Birmingham’s 16th Street Baptist Church, now a museum, served as a protest centre. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s church and the Rosa Parks Museum, both dedicated to the civil rights activist, may be found in Montgomery.
