ESCALATION: U.S. Marines Seize Iranian Ship

The fragile ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran is on the verge of collapse as the Strait of Hormuz once again becomes a combat zone. Despite talks of a second round of peace negotiations in Islamabad, the U.S. Navy has intensified its naval blockade. The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) recently released footage showing Marines from the USS Tripoli seizing the Iranian-flagged cargo ship MV Tosca in the North Arabian Sea after it allegedly ignored six hours of warnings. In a swift retaliation, Iran launched a drone attack on a U.S. warship in the Gulf of Oman, calling the American blockade a blatant violation of the ceasefire. While Donald Trump insists a U.S. delegation will reach Pakistan tonight, he simultaneously threatened to “blow up all of Iran’s power plants and bridges” if they do not comply. Iran has responded by stating they will boycott the talks unless the naval blockade is lifted immediately. With both sides trading fire and ultimatums, the prospects for the “Round Two” peace summit look increasingly bleak.
