The BJP has taken another step forward in its process to elect a new national president. On Friday, June 27, 2025, the party announced state election officers for the election of state presidents in three states. So far, the BJP has announced the names of state presidents in 14 states, but the organizational elections must be completed in 19 states before the national president can be elected.

Given the current progress, the election of the BJP’s national president could take place soon. On Friday, the party appointed Union Minister Kiren Rijiju as the election officer for Maharashtra, Union Minister Harsh Malhotra for Uttarakhand, and senior leader Ravi Shankar Prasad for West Bengal. The announcement was made via a letter issued by National Returning Officer Dr. K. Laxman.

Organizational Elections in 19 States

These three leaders will oversee the election of state presidents in their respective states. Once these elections are completed, the names of the new state presidents will be announced. After the organizational elections in all 19 states are completed, the national president will be elected. It is believed that the BJP will complete all necessary formalities for the national president’s election by early next month.

Announcement of New State Presidents

The remaining states where state president elections are yet to be held include Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Uttarakhand. On the other hand, the process has already been completed in Assam, Sikkim, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir, and new state presidents have been announced in these states.

The BJP, founded in 1980, is currently the largest political party in India. It formed the central government with full majority in both 2014 and 2019. However, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the party fell short of the majority mark.
