A shooting has been reported at a school in Sweden, with five people injured in the firing, a Swedish police spokesperson said on Tuesday.

According to initial reports, the shooting took place at around 1 pm (local time) at Riskbergska School in Orebro, 125 miles west of Stockholm.

The Orebro Police spokesperson confirmed that a major operation is underway at a school in Västhaga in Örebro.

“There has been a shooting at the school. Four people have been shot. The extent of the injuries is unclear. The operation is still ongoing. The charges are currently attempted murder, arson and aggravated weapons offense,” the police statement said.

Visuals from social media showed students locking themselves in their classrooms. However, ABP Live couldn’t independently verify the videos.

The police said that the shooting appears to have happened at a Komvux, or an adult education centre. The education centres are attended by those who could not finish their primary or secondary school. Police said that the students in the neighbouring schools are being kept indoors “for security purposes”.
