Search & Rescue Operations Underway After 6.6 Magnitude Earthquake Hit Nepal’s Doti — WATCH

New Delhi: After 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal early Wednesday, search and rescue operation are underway in Doti, the epicentre of the quake. The Nepal Army is clearing out debris to look for missing people who maybe stuck under the rubble. In the video shared by ANI, Army personnel can be seen clearing out a passageway.

According to Nepal Army spokesperson Narayan Silwal three persons were missing and are believed to have been trapped in the housing collapse in Purvichauki area of the district. The Nepal Army has started searching for the missing persons, he said according to PTI. Aside from the rescue officials, citizens have also joined in to help clear out the debris and look for survivors. 

The earthquake that was felt mildly in Kathmandu and parts of India has also caused damage to dozens of other houses in the district. According to the National Seismological Centre, the earthquake occurred at 2:12 am with its epicentre at Khaptad National Park in the Doti district of the quake-prone Himalayan nation, damaging scores of houses and sparking panic among the people who were sleeping.

At least six people died as a result of debris falling on them including children, five people sustained injuries. The identities of the deceased have been established of which two are women, two men, and two minors

A 5.7-magnitude tremor was recorded at 9.07 pm and another 4.1- magnitude tremor at 9.56 pm on Tuesday at the same epicentre, according to the Seismological Centre.

Strong tremors from the earthquake were also felt in Delhi. Aftershocks were also recorded in other areas of the Indian subcontinent.

An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred in Pithoragarh, at around 6.27 am on Nov 9. The depth of the earthquake was 5 km below the ground, added National Center for Seismology.
