The US authorities have released the bodycam footage showing the exact moment when the suspected Trump gunman, Ryan Wesley Routh, was arrested. The 58-year-old man allegedly attempted to kill former US President Donald Trump in Florida on Sunday. This was the second apparent assassination attempt on the Republican party’s presidential candidate’s life in two months.

The dramatic footage shows a seemingly nonchalant Routh– wearing sunglasses and his light pink t-shirt half on his head–walking backwards with his hands raised before law enforcement officers handcuffed him and took him to a police car. The footage was released by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

After Routh was arrested, he was charged with federal gun crimes – possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obstructed serial number, according to a report by BBC.

The former US president escaped unhurt after an apparent assassination attempt while he was golfing on his course in Florida. The incident took place on Sunday at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Secret Service agents “opened fire on a gunman located near the property line” of Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Rafael Barros, the special agent in charge in Miami, said during a news conference, adding that the agency was “unsure whether the individual,” who is in custody, “was able to take a shot at our agents.”

According to Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, a Secret Service agent spotted the suspect with a rifle sticking through the fence of the golf course and immediately fired at the man before he fled the scene. The 78-year-old Republican presidential nominee was 300 to 500 yards away from the suspect, Bradshaw said.

Ryan Wesley Routh, the owner of a small construction company in Hawaii, was detained in connection with the incident. On Monday, he was briefly presented in federal court in West Palm Beach, after which a detention hearing was set for September 23 and the arraignment is set for September 30.
