A Pakistani-Canadian businessman, who participated in protests following the death of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, was set on fire by an unidentified assailant in Canada’s British Columbia province of Surrey City.

According to a report in India Today, Rahat Rao was attacked and set on fire by a man aged around 24 on Friday. He is currently hospitalised in critical condition.

The Canadian police have released a photo of the suspect who was involved in the attack on Rao.

According to CNN-News18, a person came to the office of Rahat related to alleged money exchange work, set him on fire, and ran away. Rao is a member of the Canadian-Pakistani community.

Canada PM Alleges Involvement Of Indian Govt In killing Of Khalistani Terrorist

As per the report of India Today, Rao has been actively participating in protests in Canada since the death of Nijjar in June of last year. Nijjar was shot dead outside a gurdwara in Surrey City on June 18 of last year. He was one of 40 individuals labelled as “designated terrorists” by the Indian government.

Nijjar’s death led to a significant diplomatic rift between India and Canada. In September of last year, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged the potential involvement of Indian government agents in the killing of the Khalistani terrorist. India strongly denied these allegations, labelling them as “absurd” and “motivated.”

Following the killing of Nijjar,  the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) teams visited the office of Rahat Rao in Surrey. He was interrogated by the police for nearly two hours, including questions about Nijjar. Sources disclosed to CNN-News18 that he was compelled to delete all posts from his social media pages in the presence of the RCMP.
