Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz is being examined by a medical team over joint pain and “high temperature”, the kingdom’s state media said on Sunday.
According to a report in Deutsche Welle, this is the second time the monarch has been examined in less than a month. In April, he was admitted and then released from the hospital after having a routine checkup.
The Royal Court of Saudi Arabia said that King Salman will undergo medical examinations at the Royal Clinics of the Al-Salam Palace in the Red Sea port city of Jeddah.

“The medical check-up, prompted by symptoms of a high fever and joint pain, will be conducted by his medical team to diagnose his condition and monitor his health,” the Royal Court statement read.

In 2020, King Salman underwent surgery to remove his gallbladder. In 2022, he was hospitalized to change the battery of his pacemaker.
Before becoming Saudi Arabia’s monarch, King Salman served as the governor of the central Riyadh region and as Defense Minister.
The 88-year-old King, who is the custodian of Islam’s holiest sites, became ruler of the world’s top oil exporter in 2015 after spending more than 2.5 years as the crown prince and deputy premier.
His son, Mohammed bin Salman, was named crown prince in 2017 and is generally seen as the country’s de facto ruler.
Meanwhile, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is expected to travel to Japan this week on a rare trip outside of the Middle East. Popularly known as MBS, the Crown Prince will meet Prime Minister Fumio Kishida during a visit from May 20 to May 23.
