The MSC Aries, commandeered by Iran near the coast of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), bore 17 Indian crew members. Despite India’s appeals for their release, as disclosed by sources to ABP LIVE, there has been no tangible progress. An official source verified to ABP LIVE the presence of Indian nationals on board, reiterating India’s efforts through diplomatic avenues both in Tehran and Delhi to ensure their security, well-being, and prompt liberation. The vessel, registered under the Portuguese flag and associated with Israeli magnate Eyal Ofer, fell under Iranian special forces’ control in the early hours of Saturday, amidst heightened tensions between Israel and Iran. MSC’s statement confirmed the presence of 25 crew members during the takeover.

MEA On Israel-Iran Conflict

Amidst the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi today voiced apprehension, asserting the imperilment of regional peace and security. Urging immediate de-escalation, exercise of restraint, cessation of violence, and a return to diplomatic resolutions, the Ministry stated that it is monitoring the situation closely.

“We are seriously concerned at the escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran which threatens the peace and security in the region. We call for immediate de-escalation, exercise of restraint, stepping back from violence and return to the path of diplomacy. We are closely monitoring the evolving situation. Our Embassies in the region are in close touch with Indian community. It is vital that security and stability are maintained in the region,” the MEA stated.

The statement followed Iran’s unprecedented strike on Israel from its territory. Despite the onslaught of projectiles targeting Israel, nations refrained from evacuating their citizens, notwithstanding advisories issued by some, including the US.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) spokesperson disclosed that nearly 99 per cent of the approximately 330 missiles and drones launched by Iran were intercepted, cautioning against the lingering threat. Iran, in turn, cautioned Israel of an intensified assault on its soil in response to any retaliation, with a warning of targeting US bases if Washington lends support to Israeli military actions against Iran.
