‘Looking Forward To Discussing Partnership’: PM Modi Flies To Indonesia For ASEAN-India Summit

New Delhi: Ahead of his departure to Indonesian capital Jakarta, which will host the 20th ASEAN-India Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the discussions among the member countries would focus on shaping the “future contours” of the partnership. PM Modi emplaned for Jakarta on Wednesday evening.

“I am travelling to Jakarta on the invitation of President Joko Widodo to participate in the ASEAN related meetings. My first engagement will be the 20th ASEAN-India Summit. I look forward to discussing with ASEAN leaders the future contours of our partnership, which has now entered its fourth decade. Engagement with ASEAN is an important pillar of India’s ‘Act East’ policy. Thereafter, I will be attending the 18th East Asia Summit,” a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) read.

“This forum provides a useful opportunity to deliberate on issues of importance to the region including food and energy security, environment, health, and digital transformation. I look forward to exchanging views with other EAS Leaders on practical cooperation measures to collectively address these global challenges,” the PMO statement added.

0435 Hrs – Arrival at Jakarta

0900 Hrs – ASEAN- India Summit

1015 Hrs – East Asia Summit

1300 Hrs – Departure from Jakarta

07 September 2023

1825 Hrs IST – Arrival at New Delhi

ASEAN comprises 10 member states – Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia.

It is to be noted that over the last few years, India’s relations with ASEAN have witnessed substantial growth, especially in areas such as trade, investment, security, and defence.
