African-American singer Mary Millben on Thursday extended her support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Manipur issue and said that India has confidence in its leaders and the women of the northeastern state will receive justice. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Millben said that the voices of the Opposition would chant loudly without substance, but the truth will always set people free. She further stated that dishonest journalism will paint false narratives.
“The truth: India has confidence in its leader. The mothers, daughters, and women of #Manipur, India will receive justice. And #PMModi will always fight for your freedom,” Millben said in a tweet. “Dishonest journalism will paint false narratives. Opposition voices will chant loudly without substance. Citing a quote from Martin Luther King, Jr., she said, “My beloved India, let truth… ring.” “In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., #India, ‘let freedom ring.’ My beloved India, let truth ring,” Millben said. This comes a day after PM Modi’s response to the No Confidence Motion brought against his government by the Opposition in the Lok Sabha over the issue of Manipur.
PM Modi assured that peace would be soon restored in Manipur, which has been in the grip of ethnic violence for more than three months as a result of clashes between Metieis and Kukis. He said that the central and state governments are doing everything possible, adding that the accused will get the strictest punishment.
“Both the state and central governments are doing everything possible to ensure that the accused get the strictest punishment. I want to assure the people that peace will be restored in Manipur in the coming time. I want to tell the people of Manipur, including women and daughters of Manipur, that the country is with you,” he said in the Lower House of Parliament.
Earlier in June, Millben met PM Modi during his US visit. She sang India’s national anthem at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, DC, where the prime minister addressed the Indian community. Mary greeted the Prime Minister and touched his feet.
