A 24-year-old student died after he was left wounded in a gunshot at a fuel station on West Broad Street, Franklinton in Columbus division in Ohio on Thursday. The victim was rushed to a hospital and was pronounced dead after a while. Saiesh Veera, hailing from Eluru in Andhra Pradesh, was pursuing his master’s course and also doing a part-time job at the fuel station. The Columbus Fire Service sent the victim to a local hospital where he was declared dead at 1.27 AM. State police said the investigations are underway and the relatives have been informed.

The police said in a notification, “On April 20, 2023, at 12:50 AM, Columbus Police officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of W. Broad St. on a reported shooting. Upon arrival, the officers located an adult male victim, identified as SAIESH VEERA, M/O/24, suffering from a gunshot wound,” reported PTI.

A man named Rohit Yalamanchili, who is overseeing the online fundraiser programme to send back the body of the deceased to India said Veera was doing a master’s course. He was in the US under the H1B visa and was about to complete his graduation in just ten days, as reported by PTI.

Yalamanchili said that Veera was going to quit this clerk work at the fuel station in a couple of weeks.

Veera was the first in his family to go to the US with so many aspirations and wanted to uplift his family after his father passed away two years ago. He was known as someone who was always ready to extend help to anyone in any situation. Veera was so good at cricket sport and everyone in Columbus cricket stadium would know him.

Yalamanchili said, “I hope God brings peace to Saiesh, his mother, family, and friends who were touched by his soul,” as reported by PTI.

In a separate incident of shooting in North Carolina on Wednesday, a six-year-old girl and her parents were shot at by their neighbour as their basketball rolled into his yard.

A police official said that the accused Robert Louis Singletary (24) turned himself in on Thursday after a two-day manhunt. The accused is facing four counts of first-degree murder as two other victims, a woman and a man also got injured during the shooting, reported BBC News.

He is also being charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and also for the possession of a firearm by a felon.
