Earthquake Of 7.0 Magnitude Jolts Indonesia: US Geological Survey

The US Geological Survey recorded a magnitude 7.0 earthquake 96 km north of Tuban, Indonesia, on Friday. According to Xinhua News Agency, the epicentre of the tremor, which struck the region at 09:55:45 GMT, was initially located at 6.0255 degrees south latitude and 112.0332 degrees east longitude. Its depth was 594.028 km.

The quake occurred in the sea north of the Indonesian island of Java, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS) on Friday, AFP reported.

Earlier this month, according to a local authority, an earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Indonesia’s western province of North Sumatra, causing no damage or injuries, IANS reported.

The quake’s jolts caused no damage or injuries, according to Zul Indra, chief of the operating section of the province’s search and rescue office.

Speaking with Xinhua news agency, he stated: “All the reports we got from our posts in this province said there were no buildings or houses destroyed, or those injured or killed.”

The Indonesian meteorology, climatology, and geophysics agency BMKG had not issued a tsunami warning since the quake’s shocks did not cause massive waves.

The earthquake had struck at 9:59 p.m., with the epicentre 82 kilometres southwest of Padang Sidempuan City and 102 kilometres beneath the seabed, according to the agency.

The quake’s vibrations were also felt in the surrounding provinces of Aceh, West Sumatra, and Riau, according to the report.
